Project: COVID-19 Compliance Officer Training for the Audio-Visual Sector
Client: Screen Skills Ireland
About Screen Skills Ireland
Screen Skills Ireland, the skills development unit within Screen Ireland, is the national training and development body created specifically for the AV industry in Ireland. They were established in 1995 to provide training and career development for AV professionals. Screen Skills Ireland designs, develops and delivers industry-focused skills development initiatives for the screen sector in Ireland, encompassing film, TV, animation, games and VFX, for all roles from new entrants to company leaders.
In response to the COVID-19 crisis, Screen Skills Ireland was confronted with a significant challenge of needing to ensure workplaces had a COVID-19 Compliance Officer who would be able to plan for, manage and monitor the risks posed to workers by the COVID-19 virus. Due to the urgency for the audio-visual sector to return to work and the limitation of workplaces requiring a trained Compliance Officer, training had to be available within a short time frame. More importantly, it had to be comprehensive enough for the Compliance Officers to adequately undertake their new role.
“This was the first time I had worked on an online, non-tutor led course and I was not sure what to expect nor how much information I needed in advance of the project. The Learning Rooms brought me painlessly through the process from start to finish, including setting up a Learning Management System. They provided excellent advice on the running order of the course and how to make sure the learner was constantly engaged and could relate to the course material. Due to the nature of the course we needed to turn this around very quickly and The Learning Rooms pulled out all the stops to deliver the course on schedule. I was so pleased with the finished product, which exceeded my expectations.”
Fran Keaveney, Skills Development Executive – Film and TV Drama Production
The Learning Rooms partnered with Screen Skills Ireland, Animation Skillnet, Immersive Technologies Skillnet, Gréasán na Meán Skillnet, Learning Waves Skillnet and Screen Skillnet, to develop a 60 minute online course for COVID-19 Compliance Officers. Alongside the course development, The Learning Rooms also prepared and launched a Moodle Learning Management System to host the course.
The well-designed, engaging and modern course equips prospective COVID-19 Compliance Officers with the necessary skills, knowledge and expertise to undertake their new role as a Compliance Officer in Ireland’s AV sector. The course has been written with the most up-to-date Government of Ireland and industry specific guidance on COVID-19. The key outcome of the course is to ensure Compliance Officers are capable of designing and implementing accurate and relevant COVID-19 Response Plans specific to their workplace. It explores COVID-19 specific risk assessments and providing COVID-19 specific induction training for new and existing employees. The Compliance Officers will be prepared with the expertise to ensure necessary measures are taken to reduce the risk of transmission of COVID-19 as well as how to deal with suspected cases of COVID-19.
This course is highly interactive and contains a number of video based scenarios, practical question based learning and helpful suggestions to prepare the Compliance Officer to overcome the challenges they are likely to face in their new role.
