20 Mar Official Charity Partners: Special Olympics Ireland
The Learning Rooms are delighted to be official charity partners of Special Olympics Ireland. Team Ireland are currently in Abu Dhabi at the 2019 Special Olympics World Summer Gamesand are doing us all proud. It has been a fantastic start to the competition with our athletes performing so valiantly and representing Ireland proudly in a number of different events. 91 Special Olympics Ireland athletes travelled to compete in the World Games. We have athletes taking part in 12 different sports including athletics, badminton, basketball, bocce, bowling, equestrian, football, golf, gymnastics, kayaking, swimming and table tennis.
Special Olympics Ireland continues its fantastic work as a sports organisation providing athletes with intellectual disabilities with all the benefits of sport. Their work includes eliminating barriers to sport and promoting inclusivity. Special Olympics genuinely changes lives. Through sport, athletes develop both physically and emotionally, they make new friends and realise their dreams.
2019 Special Olympics World Summer Games kicked off in Abu Dhabi and run from the 14thof March and will run until the 21st. The Games will host 7,000 athletes from 170 countries making it the largest humanitarian sporting event this year.
We at The Learning Rooms are thrilled to partner with Special Olympics Ireland. We are working with the training department of Special Olympics Ireland to develop digital learning content to assist with club management. This will include modules on club life, structures, roles, safeguarding, administration and governance for local clubs nationwide.
Special Olympics Ireland have always strived to ensure the highest of standards are met and best practice is followed for the coaching of athletes and management of these clubs. This support is essential for many of the clubs around the country. These clubs are regularly managed by volunteers, relatives or parents and the work of Special Olympics Ireland allows them to offer a more inclusive environment and have less barriers to sport.
Through our work with Special Olympics Ireland it has given us the opportunity to sponsor an athlete to go to 2019 Special Olympics World Summer Games. This is something we were thrilled to do and look forward to a long lasting partnership with Special Olympics Ireland.
