Debunking 5 eLearning myths

Sometimes people have pre-conceived ideas about digital learning that are often not true or can be due to poorly designed eLearning! So we have made it our mission to debunk five common myths about eLearning. Enjoy!

  1. eLearning is not as effective as traditional learning
eLearning can be more effective than face-to-face learning, mainly depending on the quality of the course design. Enabling students to take control of their own learning and incorporating multimedia content, interactive activities and critical thinking exercises can engage, motivate and enable people to learn.
  2. eLearning is lonely
Although eLearning courses are typically completed individually and at your own pace, that does not mean that you can’t interact with others. Online courses are often accompanied with live video sessions, discussion forums and group activities, allowing the learners to interact and collaborate effectively.
  3. eLearning is not popular
The findings of recent research into eLearning popularity can easily debunk this idea. The Internet Trends 2019 Report highlighted an accelerated growth in eLearning courses around the world, particularly with top universities moving courses online. The online learning industry made $46 billion last year and economists are predicting the industry will be worth $325 billion by 2025.
  4. eLearning is for people who are good at tech
eLearning is sometimes viewed as an option only for tech-savvy learners. Those who have less experience with digital devices may feel like they are lacking the necessary skills. However, a well-designed eLearning course will take these factors into account and have a guide in place at the start of the course to help you understand what to do. Well-designed eLearning courses should be sufficiently user friendly that the learner easily understands how to navigate the course.
  5. Employees find eLearning boring
In some workplaces, there’s a general mindset that eLearning is boring.
This is usually because staff have been previously exposed to courses that are too general and not interactive enough. High quality eLearning courses that have been well instructionally designed and that are appropriate for the learner will provide an engaging learning experience.
