GDPR online training for RTÉ staff, contractors, and journalists
In response to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), The Learning Rooms worked with RTÉ to develop GDPR online training about data protection. The eLearning was to help staff understand the basics of the GDPR as well as know when to ask the Data Protection Officer for help with a data protection issue.
About RTÉ
RTÉ is the national Irish TV, radio, and online broadcaster. They produce and broadcast programmes. RTÉ aim to be creative, respectful, collaborative, and transparent.
The Challenge
The GDPR legislation came into effect across the European Union (EU) to ensure people are handling personal data in a safe, secure and lawful way. Every day RTÉ staff are responsible for handling personal information belonging to a variety of people. RTÉ needed to develop online GDPR training to ensure staff, contractors and journalists are able to carry out their jobs in alignment with the GDPR Legislation.
The Solution
The Learning Rooms worked with RTÉ on nine GDPR eLearning modules:

- Personal Data Breaches
- Data Protection and Contracts with Third Parties
- International transfers
- Data Protection by Design and Default and Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIA)
- Introduction and Definitions
- The Principles
- Individuals’ Rights
- Consequences of Non-Compliance of the GDPR
These GDPR eLearning modules were designed to help staff understand the basics of the GPPR. They cover key GDPR terms and concepts that are relevant for RTÉ staff. They also contain examples and stories that specifically relate to how things are done within RTÉ. At the end of the GDPR online training, staff should understand the basics of the GDPR, but also know when to ask the designed RTÉ Data Protection Officer for advice in relation to data protection issues.
We found The Learning Rooms flexible but also able to grasp detailed and complex briefs and work with the SMEs creatively to make the eLearning which not just fulfilled its compliance remit but was also engaging and easy to follow. The Learning Rooms were particularly patient and professional in their approach and showed a willingness to adapt to constantly evolving projects and creative demands.
