Safe to Create
Bullying and Harassment eLearning for Ireland’s Art and Creative Sectors
The Learning Rooms partnered with Screen Ireland, Irish Theatre Institute (ITI) and Safe to Create to develop online training for Ireland’s arts and creative sectors. The bullying and harassment eLearning module is available for anyone working in the arts and creative sectors.
About Safe to Create
Safe to Create is a resource developed to promote dignity at work in Ireland’s arts and creative sectors and to transform culture through training, information and support. It is managed by Irish Theatre Institute in partnership with the Arts Council, Screen Ireland and Minding Creative Minds.
About Screen Ireland
Screen Ireland/Fís Éireann is the national agency for the Irish film, television drama, animation and documentary industry. They offer practical funding supports for development, production, distribution and promotion, as well as the development of skills.
About the Irish Theatre Institute
Irish Theatre Institute (ITI) is a leading national resource organisation for the professional Irish theatre sector. One of ITI’s core roles is providing information, online research tools, resources and supports to those working professionally in Irish theatre.
The Challenge
Screen Ireland, Irish Theatre Institute, and Safe to Create aim to help the arts and creative sectors to flourish by creating a safe and inclusive work environment, free from harassment and bullying.
Online training was needed to people to understand bullying and harassment, and how it might manifest in the arts and creative sector workplaces.
It was important for employers and employees to understand their responsibilities in preventing bullying and harassment. They also needed to know how to report or handle any incidents that might occur.
The Solution
Screen Ireland partnered with The Learning Rooms to develop an interactive, self-paced bullying and harassment eLearning course as part of the Safe to Create programme.
An inclusive, safe and respectful work environment
The course empowers learners to take responsibility in creating an inclusive, safe and respectful work environment. It helps learners understand the legal frameworks of bullying and harassment, as well as recognise examples relevent to their sector.
The learners are introduced to the nine protected grounds of discrimination, as well as examples of sexual misconduct. Learners are informed on how to report or handle incidents of bullying and harassment.
Delivered in four sections, learners can progress through the one hour long course at their own pace. At the end of the course, learners demonstrate their knowledge with a brief assessment.
We contracted The Learning Rooms to work with us on this project and they were fantastic at retaining the strength of the original course whilst creating a bespoke course for the Irish arts and creative sectors. The Learning Rooms are a pleasure to work with and I look forward to working with them in the future.
