The Challenge
Scouting Ireland, as part of a global Scout movement, identified the need to educate Scout leaders about child protection and safeguarding. The course needed to equip Scouting Ireland members with the essential knowledge and skills needed to protect children, young people and vulnerable individuals, ensuring compliance with the latest safeguarding standards and best practices.
Scouting Ireland were new to eLearning and wanted to create online training that was engaging, interactive and user-friendly to ensure effective learning outcomes.
The Solution
Scouting Ireland’s Safeguarding Department worked with The Learning Rooms to develop a comprehensive 75-minute eLearning course for all Scout leaders. This course covers essential aspects of safeguarding, including its definition, relevant legislation and related safeguarding concepts.
A key focus of the training is the ‘4 R’s’ framework, which equips leaders to safeguard youth members effectively. This framework teaches leaders to:
- Recognise signs of abuse
- Respond appropriately
- Record information
- Report any concerns, suspicions, or allegations of abuse that could cause harm
The course also emphasises how Scout leaders can contribute to fostering a positive culture within Scouting Ireland and concludes with a brief assessment.
