Agricultural Knowledge and Innovation Systems (AKIS)
The Learning Rooms partnered with modernAKIS to develop over three hours of eLearning content about Agricultural Knowledge and Innovation Systems (AKIS) for learners across Europe. The course was translated into 22 languages and features custom animation, making complex agricultural concepts accessible to a diverse audience. The project involved coordinating with multiple subject matter experts and voice over artists, demonstrating The Learning Rooms’ capacity to deliver large-scale multilingual projects with multiple stakeholders.
About modernAKIS
modernAKIS is a European project focused on strengthening Agricultural Knowledge and Innovation Systems across the continent. The initiative helps those working in the agricultural sector work together more effectively to share knowledge and drive sustainable practices in farming and forestry. The Challenge
modernAKIS needed to create comprehensive training materials that would explain what an AKIS is and how it benefits the agricultural sector. The content needed to serve a wide range of learners, from farmers and practitioners to researchers, advisors and coordination bodies. It also needed to be applicable across different European contexts and accessible in 22 languages. The subject matter covered complex topics including systems approaches, interactive innovation, AKIS diagnosis and evaluation. This meant the training had to make these concepts understandable for all audiences while remaining relevant to diverse roles and regional contexts across Europe.
The Solution
The Learning Rooms worked with modernAKIS to develop plain English eLearning courses built in Articulate Rise. We focused on making complex agricultural concepts accessible through clear language and engaging design.
The course features custom animations following Gerhard, a farmer, and other AKIS members as they navigate the processes described throughout the modules. Icons support comprehension across all language versions, alongside diagrams illustrating AKIS structures. The six modules cover systems approaches, AKIS structure, diagnosis, interactive innovation, creating effective AKIS and evaluation, with knowledge checks throughout to reinforce learning.
