Uses of video in learning

There are many places where video is the best learning tool:

  • Create buy-in and establish a connection with subject matter experts, senior management or team members.
  • Demonstrate a case study or tell a story that will resonate with your learners.
  • Demonstrate software features using screencasts.
  • Set the scene for a scenario or create interactive scenario-based learning.

Engaging

Video based learning can increase learner motivation and enable deeper learning.

Effective

Video learning is effective as the brain can process visuals better than text.

Authentic

Video helps organisations and specialists build and foster authentic relationships with learners.

Accessible

Video can allow learners work at their own pace. Closed captions and transcripts make video accessible.

Practice, make decisions, receive feedback

Interactive video for scenario-based learning

Real-life situations and interactive scenarios provide an active learning experience. Learners get an opportunity to apply their knowledge, think critically, and use problem-solving skills in real-world scenarios. Interactive video allows learners to practice by making decisions and receiving feedback within a safe learning environment. The Learning Rooms design authentic learning experiences which both challenge and motivate your learners.

Our video production process

Every video project follows the same clear stages, whether it’s a short screencast or a full film production.

  • Explore. We work with you and your subject matter experts to understand what the video needs to achieve and who it’s for.
  • Architect. We write the script and plan the shoot approach, agreed with you before any filming or production begins.
  • Create. Our in-house team handles filming, voiceover, editing and any animation, using our equipment.
  • Test. We check the finished video works well for every learner, including caption accuracy and screen reader compatibility where the video sits inside a course.

Frequently asked questions

A few questions we’re often asked about video for learning.

Do you handle everything in house, or do you outsource production?

Everything is handled in house, from scriptwriting and casting through to filming, editing and voiceover. We use our own sound, lighting and camera equipment, auto cue and voiceover recording booth.

How long does a video project take?

This depends on length and complexity, but a straightforward screencast or short explainer can often be turned around in two weeks, while a full film production with actors and multiple locations takes longer. We’ll give you a realistic timeline once we understand your project.

What's included in a typical video project?

Scriptwriting, casting and sourcing actors or voice talent, filming or screen recording, professional lighting and sound, editing, and voiceover. We can also add animations or graphics depending on what your project needs.

Are your videos accessible?

Yes. We provide closed captions and transcripts as standard, so learners can follow the content without relying on audio, and videos are tested for compatibility with assistive technologies where they sit inside an eLearning course.

Can you turn our existing content into video?

Yes. We regularly turn existing training material, policies or subject matter expert knowledge into video, working from your source content or through interviews with your team.

Do you provide the script, or do we need to write it?

Either works. We can write the full script from scratch based on your requirements, or work from a script or content you’ve already prepared.
