Stepping into a management role for the first time can feel like being handed a job with no manual. You know your area inside out, but suddenly you are responsible for people, performance and the kind of conversations nobody really prepares you for. A QQI management course gives you that missing manual. It builds the skills, the confidence and a nationally recognised qualification to back it all up.
Our Management Essentials course is exactly that. It is a practical, blended programme that leads to a QQI Level 6 Component Certificate in Managing People (6N3945). Here is what it covers and who it is for.
What is a QQI management course?
QQI is Quality and Qualifications Ireland, the state body that maintains the national framework of qualifications. Courses are quality assured against that framework. QQI certificates are recognised by employers across Ireland and internationally.
Management Essentials sits at Level 6 on the framework and carries 50 CPD points. We design it around current best practice in management and the latest thinking in adult education, so the learning stays grounded in what actually works on the ground rather than theory for its own sake.
Who this QQI management course is for
This course suits anyone whose remit includes leading people and teams. It works particularly well for two groups of people:
- Managers who are new to the role and want a solid grounding in the essentials
- Experienced managers and supervisors who want a formal qualification to recognise what they already do
It is built for any sector, so it is just as relevant in healthcare, the public sector, charities or private business. The common thread is simple. If you manage people, this course is for you.
What you will learn
The programme gives you a comprehensive overview of the core people management approaches and the practical skills to lead a team well. The content is mapped to the real challenges managers face:
- Management and leadership, including your own management style, motivation and developing effective teams
- Communication skills, covering influencing, assertiveness, listening and getting your message across
- Employee performance, from giving feedback and setting goals to managing poor performance
- Conflict management, including the signs and causes of conflict and how to resolve it
- Employee relations, such as handling grievances, the disciplinary process and an overview of employment law
- Culture and managing change, including how culture forms and how to overcome resistance
- Personal effectiveness, covering time management, delegation, problem solving and managing your own stress
By the end, you will understand what makes a good leader, be aware of your own style, know how to motivate and guide your team, and feel far more confident handling the situations that used to keep you up at night.
How this QQI management course is delivered
Management Essentials is a fully blended programme that runs over nine weeks. It combines the best of face to face facilitation with flexible online learning, so you get real human discussion alongside content you can work through at your own pace.
Your commitment across the nine weeks breaks down like this:
- Three tutor led days, delivered by experienced facilitators using lectures, group discussion, case studies and self evaluation
- Eight interactive eLearning units delivered through video, animation and narration
- Three assignments that apply your learning back to your own role
The tutor led days bring the energy and the shared experience of learning alongside other managers. The eLearning units give you the depth and the flexibility to fit study around a busy job.
The eLearning units
Eight self contained units make up the online element. Each focuses on a key part of the management role. They cover the role of the manager and the POLC model, managing performance, conflict management, coaching, managing teams, policies and procedures, presentation skills and personal effectiveness. Six of the units take around five hours each, and the remaining two take roughly an hour and a half each.
Assessment and QQI certification
To achieve the QQI Level 6 Component Certificate in Managing People, you complete three pieces of assessment. There is a project worth 50 per cent, a learner record worth 30 per cent and an assignment worth 20 per cent.
We certify with QQI twice a year, in February and August, with certificates usually issued about a month later.
Why managers choose Management Essentials
The feedback speaks for itself. Learners tell us the course gives them the confidence to handle difficult situations, the knowledge to improve in their role and practical tools they put to use straight away. One manager at St James’s Hospital told us they had already seen changes in behaviours and staff putting what they had learned into action.
Well known organisations trust the course. These include Depaul, the Central Bank of Ireland, Beaumont Hospital and Brothers of Charity Services Ireland.
We also run this QQI management course with the HMI
We deliver a healthcare focused version of Management Essentials in partnership with the Health Management Institute of Ireland. It carries the same QQI Managing People award, but we tailor the contexts to clinical and non clinical health service settings such as hospitals, nursing homes and other healthcare facilities. The HMI runs open courses throughout the year as well as in house options.
Ready to take the next step?
Whether you are new to managing people or finally putting a formal qualification behind years of experience, Management Essentials gives you the skills and the certificate to move forward with confidence.
